ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals surprised a Texas club baseball team behind the viral “Tarps Off” shirtless fan trend at Busch Stadium this weekend, inviting them into the clubhouse for their own shirts-off celebration.
The Stephen F. Austin club baseball team, who also participated in the National Club Baseball World Series in nearby Alton, Illinois this weekend, joined the Cardinals clubhouse after Saturday’s win, cheering and waving their shirts as towels with many Cardinals, including Nolan Gorman and Ivan Herrera.
Manager Oli Marmol said the “Tarps Off” group brought a special energy to Busch Stadium and he wanted to reward their passion by bringing them into the clubhouse.
“What you guys did for them was actually pretty special,” said Marmol in a video on the Cardinals X platform, speaking with the club baseball team after Saturday’s game. “They fed off it. They loved every second last night and then when you all showed up, the place went wild. We appreciate it, and as you continue down your journey, best of luck to you. And I just want to thank you because that was pretty cool.”
The two baseball team leaders behind “Tarps Off,” Bryce Bradford and Caleb Cummings described the whole weekend as a “one-out-of-one” opportunity and the “most surreal thing I’ve ever seen.”
