Since February, there's been no shortage of "Fire Nico" chants and questions of why the Dallas Mavericks would ever trade five-time All-NBA First Team star Luka Dončić.

Now, Mavs fans have something to cheer for. The Dallas Mavericks received the No. 1 pick for the NBA Draft on Monday night's lottery. According to reports, there was only a 1.8 percent chance of the team securing the No. 1 overall pick.

Here's a look at what NBA fans are saying about the draft lottery and who the Mavs are likely to draft.

When is the 2025 NBA Draft?

The Dallas Mavericks won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, which was held Monday at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.

The Mavericks will have the first overall pick in the NBA Draft 2025, which will be held on the following date and location:

  • Date: June 25
  • Where: Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Who were the NBA lottery winners?

Despite finishing the season with a 39-43 record, the Mavericks had only a 1.8% chance of securing the top draft pick. They managed to reach the Play-In Tournament, a surprising feat considering they had traded Luka Dončić to the Lakers in a shocking move before the trade deadline.

Picks 1-14 are determined by the lottery system. Two Texas teams got the top two picks.

Here are the teams that received their picks via lottery.

Who will the Dallas Mavericks draft?

The Mavericks are expected to draft Cooper Flagg, the standout two-way forward from Duke who came close to winning all the major National Player of the Year honors in college.

During his freshman year, Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists at Duke this season. He shot 48.1% from the field, 38.5% from 3-point range, 84% from the foul line and was the Associated Press’ national player of the year.

What are Mavs fans saying about receiving the No. 1 pick?

It's been an exasperating three months if you're a Dallas Mavericks fan. The team traded Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in a shocking trade. The team was riddled with injuries that kept their best talent out of the lineup. Mavs general manager and the man who made the deal to send Dončić away, Nico Harrison, has had several bizarre press conferences that barely explained why he traded Dončić.

But it seems Mavs fans have something to feel good about now. Here is what fans are saying:

I'm told Patrick Dumont was at a track meet of one of his kids and couldn't watch the lottery live. His phone rang and it was Mark Cuban, telling him the Mavs were in the top 4.

Phone rang again and Dumont thought Cuban said Mavs got No. 1 pick, but Cuban was so busy screaming…
