area high school baseball teams still pursuing a state championship. and Champaign Central are one of 16 teams left standing in Class 3A, while St. Joseph-Ogden and Unity are still playing in 2A and Armstrong-Potomac and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley are doing the same in 1A. No baseball team in The News-Gazette coverage area has ever won a baseball state title since the first IHSA state tournament was held in 1940.
