He may have already peaked statistically, showing a gradual decline in most areas since his best year in Memphis in 2022, including points, rebounds, and assists. Speaking of which, he is not capable of initiating the offense or playing PF. The one area where he has continued to improve, however, is three-point shooting, where he shot 39.7% last year.

Several people who have watched a lot more of Brooks have said as much. Hopefully it's not the case.
Well that's just wrong:

Brooks had more rebounds and points in 2024-25 compared to his 2022-23 year (which I assume is what they're referencing considering his injury issues in 21-22).
Note, He DID play more games and minutes last year, but that's not what the assertion was.

Brooks 3pt % alone and defense makes either of Allen or Oneal expendable. He can also play up too where he can guard the 2-4 position. His style of play is contagious, I think we are really undervaluing Brooks.

Hmm...so you're saying it was more in total, but perhaps less on an average per min basis? (this isn't my own research so I'm just sharing what I saw...)

Correct, but the other thing that was already noted is that it was on FAR better shooting efficiency. 0.396/0.326/0.779 vs 0.429/0.397/0.818

Considering that his eFG% is the highest of his career and he averaged a career high in rebounds, I put zero credibility in that article. As with most players that should be high level role players he had a few years where his role was inappropriately elevated in a Memphis offense that needed more scoring from him. I’ve seen no decline in his play only more efficiency.

I look at Brooks as intangibles. Toughness, and willingness to play hard defensively. The Suns want scrappy guys that play hard. Brooks demonstrates that. You are trying to get players to align to that vision, and Brooks is a guy the coaches can point to in that regards. When I heard he was thrown in, I figured, of course we wanted him. He's paid more than O"Neal, which is why the other team probably threw him into the trade, but for us at this moment in time trying to change the culture, we took him.

Brooks will hopefully be our Jae Crowder.

I know I did a 180 on him but the more learned about Monty the more I realized I was wrong to blame Crowder for what happened in 2023. Dude may not have been a PF capable of covering Ayton's weaknesses but he had a positive impact on everyone else, from all accounts.

Brooks deserves the opportunity to the fanbase over and he will if he's a similar sort of dawg on the court as Crowder was.

This would be a good outcome. I hope it works out that way.

I may be in the minority but I’m ok with Allen being shipped off.

I am still sceptical to Brooks, but I have grown accustomed to the thought of him on the Suns.

Grayson Allen grew on me and more importantly kept his play clean, so hopefully Brooks will play hard but clean and fair. I am 100 % in the camp that our guys need some toughness to offset the "chilling".

Going to be some long slow weeks now, with regards to Suns news and otherwise in (my) life. Might have to pick up a book or two. Hope they do some trades, but if not, I'm okay waiting until training camp and season start. No trades hopefully means they could not find any good trades. And that is important.

To get somewhat back on topic I am glad Collin got a contract. Hope he beats out the competition to get some stable minutes. He was good last year as a spark plug and distributor. He provided a lot of good things. He still needs to work on his handles and shooting.

We might need an off-season ASFN book club.

I hope Colin is working hard this summer to get his conditioning up. I don't think he has other holes he can improve outside of games. He won't become a better athlete but I thought he looked a bit gassed late in the season, after his playing time increased substantially. I also hope he saw what TJ McConnell did throughout the playoffs. If Colin can become the Suns version of McConnell then he'll get paid and help us win.

Hope life goes well for you and yours up until the Suns can bring some pain back into your life. ;)

I'm kind of there. If Allen stays, he needs to play with a chip on his shoulder. I thought that was the player the Suns were getting.

First season was definitely more "chippy" than the second season. I think maybe the being a father and adjusting to non sleep with the baby, or maybe carrying more pounds, he just didn't seem as tough on defense the second season.

Allen seemingly came into camp at a heavier weight than usual and didn't play up to his capabilities.

How good is Collin Gillespie? Too good not to have been wrapped up on a multi-year contract.

Hopefully the Suns fix it if given another chance.

Last season, he was on a two-way contract. This season, he is on a 1-year contract.

He is an unrestricted free agent next season.
