Mississippi had its fair share of legends, particularly on the gridiron, headlined by Hall of Famers Walter Payton and Jerry Rice.

That duo is just a small sample of the many past and present legends to come out of Mississippi. Today the state is home to many high school athletes who hope and dream to achieve that level of notoriety.

According to a study conducted by Niche, which accounts for survey feedback from students and parents—accounting for "reviews of athletics, number of state championships, student participation in athletics, and the number of sports offered at the school"—and data from the U.S. Department of Education, these are the top 25.
