Bayern Munich’s squad is, indeed, small. However, Bayern are also firm in the belief that this was one of the secrets behind the side’s success this season. Everybody has the chance to play, they’re sticking together, and no one is blaming anyone else. The opposite, you might dare say, to what’s going on at Real Madrid at the minute! They want to keep it small. They appreciate the fact that the team spirit is pretty high, so they don’t want to change it.

Monday’s supervisory board meeting​

So came the day when Max Eberl had to present his plans for the upcoming summer transfer window. The big plan, as will come as no surprise given how much we’ve talked about him, is Anthony Gordon. The big question was whether or not the supervisory board would be prepared to go full throttle for the Englishman and help Eberl pay the money Newcastle are looking for. The answer was yes; the supervisory board will be backing Eberl, but he has to bring the price down a little.

My colleague, Ben Jacobs, has now also confirmed that there is an agreement with the player, and the fee is looking closer to £75m [€86.5m]. It’s a little less than the £80m we discussed previously, but it’s still too much for Bayern Munich. This will be the key point now. Max Eberl has to bring the transfer fee closer to what Bayern are prepared to pay. At the beginning, they were thinking of €60m [£51.9m], but that won’t be enough. Perhaps they could make things work with add-ons attached or by spreading out the transfer over a number of years. Regardless, the big decision was that Bayern will go for Anthony Gordon. They want him this summer. If it works, perhaps they won’t need additional transfers.

Of course, it’s very much within Bayern’s nature to keep alternatives in mind, which is why they have a “B-List” of offensive players in case things don’t work out. Mika Godts of Ajax is one of the names on the list, but they don’t want to go for him at this point in time – certainly not while they believe Gordon remains gettable.

We can rule out Charles De Ketelaere transfer​

It is TRUE: Bayern Munich are not pursuing Charles De Ketelaere this summer. They are aware of the Belgian, and he’s within the wider focus of the club. However, it’s not anything like it’s being reported in Italy, in terms of there also being negotiations taking place. There are no negotiations with De Ketelaere at this point in time. Bayern are currently negotiating with Anthony Gordon, and the talks with Newcastle have already started.

Max Eberl’s future this summer​

No decision has been made on Max Eberl’s future. He has to show that he’s the right man for the job in the upcoming summer transfer window, and then there will be a definitive decision made in August. Following that, the supervisory board will hold another meeting in which they’ll decide whether the 52-year-old will get another contract or not. If he doesn’t, the relationship could end extremely quickly – after all, no one wants to be a lame duck!

But remember: Eberl was the man who brought Vincent Kompany to the club – and that’s proven to be the best decision Bayern have made in recent years. Everyone believes this inside the club. Bayern’s director of sport also brought in Luis Diaz (at a time when there wasn’t absolute certainty that this deal would work out), who’s had a fantastic 2025/26 season. I think Liverpool fans will know more than anyone what was lost last summer! He also brought in Michael Olise, and Tom Bischof will be a key player next term. So you can comfortably say he’s made plenty of good decisions, but now Max Eberl has to show that he doesn’t always have to pay the highest price for signings, and he has to sell some players. These will be the factors that help the supervisory board make their decision.

Manuel Neuer contract latest​

It is TRUE: There is an agreement on a new contract – the GOAT will play one more season – but it’s not official yet! We think that the weekend will be an ideal time to share the news. There’s going to be the great German champion party after the Bundesliga match with FC Köln, and then the next day, they will be at the city hall (Marienplatz) to celebrate the title with the supporters. I think they’ll announce Manuel Neuer’s new contract around these celebrations. We will have to see! Perhaps Julian Nagelsmann, our bundestrainer, thinks that he might need him as well for the upcoming World Cup!

Are Bayern still confident about Givairo Read transfer?​

Givairo Read remains one of the players Bayern would like to bring to Munich this summer. This transfer isn’t the top priority – this can only be Anthony Gordon (which might end up being the only piece of business Bayern do in the window). However, the next player they’d like to bring in would be Feyenoord’s Read. FC Bayern are in with the negotiations for him as well, but they’re waiting to see how a potential deal for Gordon pans out. In the meantime, the club thinks that between Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić, they have two players who can fill this position well. So, they don’t have to do something, but they’d like to.

Is Tomás Araújo a “Plan B” for Givairo Read?​

It is NOT TRUE: Bayern have Tomás Araújo down as a Plan B in case they can’t sign Givairo Read. They have the first line of the defence with Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah, and then Kim Min-jae and Hiroki Ito (Stanišić can also play this position). They don’t have so many players they can still sell, as the squad isn’t particularly big! Ito and Min-jae are two players who could be sold if there is a good offer. I can imagine there will be talks after that to determine if there will be some exits. But at the moment, no one has been sold, so they’ll have to wait.

Could there be a breakthrough in talks with Konrad Laimer?​

There was a lot of silence last month! The last meeting was in December 2025, but now there has been another meeting to discuss Konrad Laimer’s contract. Now, the Austrian has shown that perhaps he won’t be looking for so much money as he was in the first round of talks. For him, it would be nice and important to stay at Bayern Munich. The midfielder-turned-right-back’s family isn’t far away; they live in Salzburg. He has a house in Salzburg that’s about an hour and a half to two hours away from Munich. So, he would like to stay at Bayern Munich. To make that happen, he’d be happy with a salary that isn’t as high as what was discussed in the first round of talks. That said, Laimer is still looking for more money than what he’s currently on. So, the talks will go on. But today, it doesn’t seem as impossible for Bayern to keep him.

Tottenham to hand Luka Vušković a new contract​

Tottenham have held some talks about Luka Vušković in the last few days, and it seems that he wants to stay at Tottenham (and they want him back). However, it’s not just a matter of playing time. The Croatian’s management will talk with the club about a new contract. He made a big, big step in his playing career with this loan spell at Hamburg. Many top clubs now have him firmly on their radar. So, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham reward the centre-back with a contract that reflects his development, or (if the offer isn’t good enough and there aren’t enough minutes on the table) if he’s forced to go search for another club.

Pep Guardiola pushing for Kennet Eichhorn solution​

It is TRUE: Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have the idea to sign Kennet Eichhorn and then loan him back to Bayer Leverkusen. That’s an idea and there’s a good reason for this. Eichhorn is not allowed to play for Man City, as he’s still 16 years old. So, they have to find a way of saving him for the future, and this method would allow them to do so. Activate his roughly €12m [£10.3m] release clause at Hertha BSC and let him play in the Bundesliga. Normally, I don’t like accusations of the Bundesliga being a “farmer’s league”, but in this case, it could be true! They’d let Eichhorn play until he’s 18 years of age, then he’d be allowed to play in the Premier League for Man City – if he’s good enough! Now, if they want to buy him, they have to guarantee him playing time at another club. Leverkusen would be fine with this! Borussia Dortmund are thinking of buying the player themselves, as he has long-term value. And Bayern also remain interested in the teenager.

Rumours of talks with Dušan Vlahović’s father​

It is NOT TRUE: Bayern officials have held talks with Dušan Vlahović’s father over a potential summer transfer. I’ve had a clear “not true” from the club. Dušan Vlahović is an interesting player, certainly as a free agent for the summer. So there’s going to be plenty of rumours around the Serbian! He shared some quotes with the press as well, which also added fuel to the fire with the rumours. However, Bayern Munich are not interested at the moment. Not because the 26-year-old isn’t good enough, but rather because they already have Harry Kane. They don’t need a player like Dušan Vlahović. Ideally, Bayern are in the market for a versatile offensive star who can play across multiple positions, like Anthony Gordon. The Englishman can play as a striker and across both flanks. So this is the idea.

Have Bayern Munich offered Harry Kane a new contract?​

It is NOT TRUE: Bayern Munich have a contract offer on the table for Harry Kane. As they say, often 1 +1 =2. Bayern Munich want to keep him. Kane is feeling very fine, very well in Munich. Bayern want to open talks with him about a new contract before the World Cup. The England captain is of an age where you’re not going to give him a five-year contract. So, a one-plus-one kind of deal makes sense. I think this could happen in the future, but it’s not the case that the negotiations are so clear at present. Kane is totally relaxed, and for him, it would be fine to talk after the World Cup. So, you see, he’s relaxed with the situation in Munich because he’s enjoying life at the club.

Lothar Matthäus: Vincent Kompany would have preferred to keep Nicolas Jackson​

Vincent Kompany is a football manager, and just like every other manager, he wants to get every football player he can possibly get. You see what Pep Guardiola is doing with his squad at Man City, signing players like Omar Marmoush, and you’re left thinking, “Why do you need this player?” But, of course, if you can have him, I would take him as well! It’s the exact same with Kompany. He will lose Nicolas Jackson at the end of the season, as well as Leon Goretzka. There are rumours about AC Milan, and they seem to be really far in negotiations with the midfielder. There are talks of a three-year deal. Raphaël Guerreiro will go back to Portugal, we heard. So, you’re going to lose three players and bring in one more, perhaps, in Anthony Gordon. So, you can understand why Vincent Kompany might be quite keen to keep another player. However, the board won’t go for Jackson, and he’ll be sent back to Chelsea this summer. The Belgian head coach will have to wish for a new player, or perhaps he’ll get some apple pie from Uli Hoeneß again.
