The Athletic: Man Utd have quietly completed £31.4m deal for 33-capped international before window opens
Manchester United have already received £31.4 million from Napoli for Rasmus Hojlund before the transfer window has officially opened, according to The Athletic journalist Chris Weatherspoon.
Napoli qualifying for the Champions League in their final matches of the season meant the forward’s buy obligation had been fulfilled, and he was instantly made a permanent member of the squad in Naples.

Rasmus Hojlund joins Napoli
Even if the Serie A outfit finished outside the UCL places, it’s thought they were keen to keep hold of Hojlund anyway.

His form across the campaign was much improved in comparison to his final year at Old Trafford, where he returned only four goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
The 33-capped Dane returned 16 goals and eight assists in 44 matches across all competitions for Napoli. 18 of those goal contributions came in the league alone.
Hojlund did claim silverware in 2025/2026, too, having lifted the Italian Super Cup back in December 2025.
How will United utilise the money they’ve received for Hojlund?
Now, United will already be plotting how they can reinvest the funds to bolster Michael Carrick’s squad before 2025/2027 gets underway.
A new forward isn’t a priority in the same way that a midfielder is, but having added depth to rotate with Benjamin Sesko wouldn’t go amiss, especially with Champions League football added to the fixture list next season.
Reports have suggested that the Reds may even look to pursue a surprise deal for Jarrod Bowen following West Ham’s final-day relegation.
He is as proven as you’d want from a top-flight attacker, and would likely be available at a cut-price fee due to the Irons navigating their first term back in the Championship.
