Before Manchester City played a game in their preseason tour of Asia, it did seem like there was a battle between Max Alleyne and Vitor Reis that would take place for the fifth-choice centre-back role in Enzo Maresca’s squad. Both young centre-backs had the opportunity to impress against Inter Milan, the K-League All-Stars and Atletico Madrid. Both players took that opportunity. It looks like Vitor Reis will be Manchester City’s first-choice centre-back as Max Alleyne is poised to complete a loan move to Burnley.

Max Alleyne is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan move to Burnley.​

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Max Alleyne is set to complete a loan move to Burnley for the 2026-27 season. Furthermore, Romano reports that Alleyne’s imminent loan move is a straightforward loan move that doesn’t include an option to buy for Burnley. Alleyne will return to Manchester City at the end of the 2026-27 season. Lastly, Romano reports that Max Alleyne is scheduled to complete his medical with Burnley tomorrow.

There is a role at Manchester City for Max Alleyne in the future, provided he thrives at Burnley.​

Max Alleyne showed at Watford last season that he can be a very good centre-back in the Championship. Alleyne played exceptionally well in an unstable Watford side last season. His impressive form earned him a recall to Manchester City when injuries ravaged City’s defence last January. Alleyne stepped up in City’s hour of need and showed enough positive signs that indicate he will be a very good centre-back in time.

Now Max Alleyne will have the opportunity to take the lessons he learned at Manchester City to Burnley. Alleyne should be a key player in Burnley’s defence in the Championship. It is a safe assumption that Alleyne won’t be battling for minutes at Turf Moor. The challenge is for Alleyne to show consistent growth as a centre-back throughout the 2026-27 season which may play him into the Manchester City defensive plans for the future.

Max Alleyne is set to complete a loan move to Burnley for the 2026-27 season. Alleyne needs to be playing on a consistent basis and he will be afforded that opportunity at Turf Moor. How Alleyne fares for Burnley may dictate what the future at Manchester City holds for the impressive centre-back.
