The AL Central is wide-open, and the White Sox could swoop in and take it originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Chicago White Sox are still in the hunt for the American League Central title. This really comes following the devastating news that Detroit Tigers ace, and Cy Young favorite, Tarik Skubal will be missing 4-6 weeks with elbow surgery.
Now, with the division seemingly wide-open, the White Sox could swoop in and take the whole thing.
Currently at 17-20 on the season, they still sit behind the Tigers by a game and then the Cleveland Guardians by 2 games for the division-lead. Obviously, Cleveland is going to be in the mix as well, and who knows, Detroit could survive without their ace for the next month and a half, but you cannot count out the White Sox.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report heralded that the White Sox could join their Windy City partners for division winners.
Really, you cannot count out the sensational batting of Munetaka Murakami, who is literally chaos at the plate. His stat-line is something you read out MLB The Show video game, as his style consists of blasting home runs, taking a lot of walks down the first-base line or striking out entirely.
He shares the lead with 14 home runs with New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge, and also holds the AL-lead in strikeouts with 55. Murakami has also drawn the fourth-most walks with 28.
Looking at his hits, he has 31 total hits on the season and 14 of them went yard. Almost 50% of the time he puts the ball in play it is a home run.
The White Sox have to find him some support, both offensively and on the mound. If they can keep themselves in contention by the time Skubal returns for the Tigers, look for the south siders to try and find themselves some help via trades.
