Rudy Adams does play very hard, you are right. He regulary sticks his nose in there with the big boys and gives max effort. How do you think he feels when he watches the film of that play? What kind of message does that send to the team as a whole?

That if you celebrate a defended pass as if you just single handidly won the Super Bowl, when the score is out of hand late in the 4th quarter and sport a diamond studded GRILL, you'll be treated like the big screen starlett you believe you are??

I totally disagree... would Belichek, Parcells, Cowher, Tomlin, Payton or even Shanahan accept that type of weakness??
It's about the type of team you as a HC want to be. The Cards have been known as a soft team for decades. And all that softness was only able to be overcome by a future HOF quarterback. So, I guess if we can stumble upon another future HOF Qb, we're good. Otherwise, it would be a wise move by Whiz to stop accepting the status quo of softness and actually do something about it. Based upon DRC's total lack of effort and willingness to tackle, if it were me, I'd bench his ass until he proves he's ready to actually play football. Keeping him in as starter certainly hasn't done much and with only 4 games left and only playing for draft position, now is the time to make this type of statement... or not.

I shudder to think of the consequences were DRC to have pulled that crap if say he were playing on a D like Baltimore. I don't think they have any concept of what a "soft" player is let alone have one on the team and continually tolerate his softness because... uh, well, just because.

I think having soft players, guys quitting on plays, and IMO the worst part tolerating it all reflect horribly on the coaching staff. Especially when that coach is the guy that brought that player in in the first place.

That play on the Jackson run was as blatant and clear cut of a benchable offense you will ever find in an NFL game. How does something like that happen in the first place, and worse yet how in the world is it the norm and continue to be tolerated? Bench the guy. Its not like he shutting anyone down or even in the very least not constantly getting burned right?

The Chiefs by comparison have one of the best CB's in the game who's all world and will tackle people and isn't a goofball.

Their vision dosen't suck.

That is their FO vision of building a team who's now first in rushing, plays tough, dosen't take any crap from anyone, has two assistants both of whom have been in multiple SB.

So you see it's a mix of idiotic coaching, idiotic players and an idiotic FO IMO, plenty of blame to spread around but it all starts and really ends with the FO, cause they built this puppy.

Good post. I agree with everything you say. I do have to make the point though that the DRC pick has Whis' fingerprints all over it. He loves those small sschool DII types and is loyal to them to no end.

Truth be told I think Cromartie has all the physical tools to be a very good player and he has shown flashes of that at times. The problem is this coaching staff is basically clueless as how to develop young guys with raw talent into consistent, quality contributors.

Agree about DRC's physical tools. They are immense and certainly All-Pro caliber.

Hightower was a 5th rounder from a smalltime football program and IMHO, has played consistently above his draft position. Toler has shown signs... small, but they're there. Sendlein? Maybe... Andre Roberts?? Jury still on him, Washington and Williams of course, but each has shown signs...
However, whether it's Calais Campbell, Levi Brown, Duece, Brandon Keith, or Rashard Johnson, they seem to have hit a wall...

Actually I dont think it reflects on the coaching staff much at all. Its the norm and a constant with DRC. It is just his mental make up and one of those you are just going to have to deal with him. Hes soft both phyically and mentally. Some things coaching just can't fix.

As an example you have a guy like Mike Adams who is a munchkin compared to DRC has the same coaching staff and has zero problem making a hard tackle or getting his nose in the mix.

When does he have to battle for the #1CB spot?

I hear you. You know what I'm going to say when it comes Breaston's breakout and development- I do think a certain QB may have had a lot to do with it but I'll give Whis credit where credit is due. Breaston is awesome and the coaches have managed to put him in situations that get the most out of his talent. Hightower is good for what he is. But I mean, seriously, so far in 4 seasons those are by far Whis' crown jewels of the drafts. What are the guys taken in rds 1-3 doing? Its great to have guys taken late outplay their draft position but what about the guys you invested the most in? Where is the next wave of big time players we need to replace the likes of Q, Dansby, ect going to come from?

I started a thread awhile ago breaking down the 1st rounders we have taken under Whis and where they are in terms of development and production. Its not a pretty picture. Some guys aren't developing at all, and some guys even seem to be regressing. Could it be that everyone is just a bust? I guess but I do see things that make me think there is a lack of cultivation of talent coming from this staff.

Hey man... I've been a staunch Whiz guy up until recently... I now have questions about the man I never had previously. But on the draft pick story, I just think we're still too early on in his tenure to adequately make any judgements there. Again, we still don't know how Campbell, DRC, Washington, Williams, or even Beanie will eventually turn out. Yes, Levi is a BUST. Total and complete. And I just don't see that being turned around... Hope I'm wrong. Cody Brown was a bigtime Whiff... but any coach will have a few of those during his career...
But on the rest, what am I missing? Beanie showed solid promise last season, but started this season off with a significant and nagging knee injury. I'm not tyring to make excuses for the guy as I still think he should be further along than he is.
Campbell - is he playing hurt? Some think so... But we need to see what he does next season before we count him out.
DRC - PUNK and this is one that I totally come down hard on Whiz. Whiz is completely mis-managing DRC and IMHO, it's hurting DRC's development, as well as the psyche of the rest of the team.
And then Roberts, Williams and Washington are too early on to make any judgements there...

Like I said, I've got concerns about Whiz that I didn't have in the early stages of this season. This coming off-season and next year are huge for me. Whiz needs to reclaim his position as one of the better coaches in the NFL. He can do that by being smart during the offseason, and getting this team at least to .500 next year. Given that we don't have a viable QB of the future currently on the roster (unless Skeletor surprises bigtime!), .500 will be quite an achievement...

I think its just a bad, bad situation all around. I think the one saving grace is we play in the NCFW so its the easiest road to hoe. If we can find a way to muster 8-9 wins any given season for about the next 2 or 3 we can win it and at the very least give off the impression that we are a successful organization. (unless they change the playoff qualifying rules that is lol)

At the same time 7 game (and counting) skids when you play in such a weak div just should not happen. And its not just the losing. If we were losing the way teams like BUF and DET lose it would be slightly less alarming. But when we lose the way we have been losing over the course of this skid it raises all types of red flags and gives me serious pause about our future prospects under this current staff.

Can't argue that and in many ways, the way we are losing and the fact that we are in a current 7 game skid while playing in a Div I-AA league is what has me questioning Whiz in a way I never have before.
I've been willing to give the man a mulligan. And I'm staying with that. But it's just one. Next year is key. If he swings and misses this offseason in the draft and with FA's, and then proceeds to bring us a 6 win season or worse, he's toast!

Immediately after the 9er game later this year, we need to see Billy Davis canned, and an indication Whiz is FINALLY ready to relinquish the OC duties. If those two things don't happen quickly, I believe we are heading for more trouble...

To question if he he'll have a job into 2011 shows me they are WAY off... No coach gets fired after winning back to back division titles, a conference championship and a trip to the Super Bowl simply because the following year he pooped the bed. He'll be provided all of 2011 to show what he is made of. But hell, even if he went 2 & 6 during the first half of next year, I can't see him being let go...

Really dumb blog post. First off, dude just got an extension, there is no way he gets fired. That would be STUPID.

Second, what an overreaction and leaps of logic. I think we will learn A LOT about Whis in his next season and this offseason. You can't say he doesn't know how to lead because this team sucks. He can't identify a QB right now, and he needs to let go of the OC duties and focus on his HC job, but those aren't questions on how well he can lead. He leads just fine.

I think he's being stubborn and stupid at the moment, but this blog post is over the top and just as stubborn and stupid.

We've been talking about this since right before the Atlanta game. Some of us thought that it would be a real indicator of what kind of team we had if, even if the Cards lost, they played hard and kept it close. Instead they get crushed despite what should have been a momentum changing 80 yard TD run to get the Cards back in the game after being down 10-0.

Personally I think the team finally packed it in for the season after the OT loss to the Vikings. Which is exactly what you would expect from a soft team with no heart.

Since then they get pasted by the Seahawks who lost 41-7 the week before playing us and lose 34-19 the week after and give an extremely lackluster performance vs the 4and9ers who lost 21-0 before and 34-16 after.

What normally happens when a team quits like this and plays below it's talent level and has a HC who can't be fired is that at least one Coordinator and 2-3 assistants get the ax.

Not really, the Stupid thing to do would keep a looser on your staff who took credit for other peoples Drafts, trades, and FA's and play calling...!!! Ego does not win Championships. Screw the stay the course attitude the Whiz has demonstrated.

Do you even realize how stupid and ass backwards that blog is? It starts out by saying he has been unbale to consistently run a franchise then immediately mentions consecutive NFC West championships and a SB appearance in 3 years. If anything that show consistency. The record this year shows the aberration with the short tenure of his head coaching. ability so far.

Mike Adams is having his best streak as a CB, have you seen the points and passing yards we give up!

He still don't make any other roster in the NFL unless its ST. Mike Adams is the poster child of these Cards.

High risk -high reward schemes,
problem is they are high risk - low reward!

Mike Adams can't cover my fat az. but He is an exciting playmaker about 1 out of 40 times. He's our main pass rushing threat in the playoffs, rushed him what 10 times from the CB position and got to Rodgers once for the game winner.

1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th WR's in this NFL, their nuts swell all up when they see Mike Adams lining up across from them. They are gonna get theirs.
