Yes and that is a big part of the rivalry. There’s a good ESPN documentary about two Argentina players who played for Tottenham hotspur in North London. It is a great story that talks about the divide between the two countries. there’s a lot of World Cup history. The hand of god goal, that would have been taken away by VAR today. The 98 knockout match where Beckham gets sent off after being baited by Simeone. 2002 they played in the group stage in an incredible match. Beckham got his revenge on a penalty kick on a phantom flop by Michael Owen who was being defended by none other than Pochettino. again another play that imo would be overturned by VAR today.
Forgetting the most important one. '86 World Cup quarterfinal - 3 years after the war. Maradona scoring with the hand to get Argentina up 1 - 0. He jokes about it after the game calling it "the hand of God". Argentina wins 2 - 0 with the 2nd Maradona goal arguably being the greatest goal ever scored in World Cup history

yeah I said hand of god goal. if you say that to any football fan in the world, they will most likely know what it is having seen it thousands of times on replay. the irony that today any call that is 50/50, people come up with conspiracies LOL. yet in 86 you can score with a hand and it doesn't matter...unless you are English. Let's be real though, Argentina is overdue to get a player sent off or a bad call go against them in this upcoming game. The sport gods usually win in the end.

The referee did it right. The Swiss player faked a foul resulting in a yellow card. VAR got involved. As soon as the Argentinian card was revoked there has to be a yellow card to the Swiss player by rule
yes that's what I was saying. I agree with the call regardless of how it favored argentina who I don't root for. When a player is on a yellow card, he has to be better than that. I applaud FIFA for punishing a dive like that. maybe it will resonate, I doubt it.

Alright, Norway is done. That was a good game. I feel like that kick that hit the camera wire should have been overturned, but I understand why it wasn't. England is a good group, no doubt. I think at this point I'm rooting for England going forward.

RIP Viking Row, until the next time. I'm rooting for England as well now that Norway is out.

The sports gods do win, which is why England doesn't. Their uber arrogant fan base dooms them to dislike-ability and with the sports gods.

Gianni Infantino confirmed that FIFA will discuss expanding the men's World Cup to 64 teams after the 2026 tournament, saying every nation should have the chance to dream of playing at football's biggest event.

that would severely alter world cup qualifying. at least italy would make it next time...although I don't care that they aren't here parking their buses.

I think it's got it's pros and cons. All of this qualifying is already happening to some degree. This would just make it more visible to the world. But damn that would be a lot of games to keep track of from the start of the WC to the finale.
