same, and it's not impossible for them to flop. that could happen to anyone. and there are always surprises at the WC. the question for me is can they beat one of the top teams in the knockout stages. that would be a real turning point for USA. If you go back to 2002, they did beat Portugal and Mexico. Back then Mexico were a very good team expected to make a deep run. USA also would have probably defeated Germany if there was VAR. that is under the assumption that they would have been awarded a penalty and the German player got sent off, which is what should have happened.

there is a world where the USA team can be competitive and they certainly have the talent to do it.
The fact that that team didn't cause the federation to move on and continue to develop is a freaking crime. Great team spirit, if not the most talented team. That should have been the signal. To come out in 2006 and go out like ******* was sad. Not as bad as watching the WC in '98 while in Bosnia where we finished dead last, but sad.

This team? Meh. Who's the keeper? Ancient Tim Ream is starting? Lots of questions. Problem is, I've lost the passion. They've been so crap I haven't mustered the energy to watch any games lately. I'll check out the WC, but otherwise...meh.

I feel the same way to a degree. I will still support them but they need to produce. They cant flame out at home the way they did at the copa america.

2026 World Cup ticket prices are dropping

The average price for group-stage tickets have plummeted over 23% in the past month and are currently at the lowest prices they’ve seen since January 17.

The average get-in price for a group-play match peaked at $737 and is now down to $550. That $168 price drop is a stunning shift with less than a month before the June 11 kickoff game in Mexico City.

The opening match between the USMNT and Paraguay at SoFi Stadium on June 12 has dipped below four figures for the first time in five months. The average price to “get-in” the stadium has dropped to $938. Only reportedly 40,934 tickets have been sold for a venue that can hold nearly 70,000 fans.

WILD.Hotels across multiple 2026 FIFA World Cup host cities are reportedly seeing major room cancellations from FIFA itself.

According to the AHLA, up to 70% of FIFA-reserved hotel rooms in Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Seattle have been released back into the market.

The hotel industry says FIFA’s early block bookings created “artificial demand” that inflated prices and distorted expectations ahead of the tournament.

Now, with just weeks until kickoff, some hotels fear the expected World Cup tourism boom may fall short.

: The ball for the 2026 World Cup needs to be plugged in and charged before kick off.

• The balls have a sensor that tracks its precise location every time that it's touched.

• For the 2022 World Cup, the sensor hanged in wires inside the ball, but now it's part of one of the balls panels.

• The data is paired with 12 cameras around the stadiums to track the precise location of the ball and every player 50 times every second.

• This data is transmitted live to VAR, and will be used to determine goal line technology and offsides.

• The sensor is extremely lightweight, unnoticeable for the players, and the battery lasts for up to 6 hours.

WILD.New York and New Jersey announced Wednesday they have subpoenaed FIFA as part of an investigation into its ticketing practices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing soaring prices and reports that fans were misled about seat locations.New York Attorney General Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said in a news release that their offices are seeking internal information about how FIFA sold tickets to eight World Cup matches scheduled to take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, including the final on July 19.

: There is a strong expectation that many World Cup matches will face lengthy delays due to thunderstorms.

In the United States, play must be stopped immediately if lightning is detected within roughly 13 km of a stadium.

The match can only resume after 30 minutes without any new lightning strikes. If another strike is detected, the 30-minute countdown resets.

As a result, some matches could be delayed for several hours, just like what happened during the Club World Cup.
