If it doesn't work out it will likely be due to the presence of Lavar. And if that's the case, "can always be traded again" becomes problematic.

On a rookie scale contract I'd be tempted give it a try. After next season his contract becomes a team option. So there is not much invested financially.

I was working off @Folster successful trade scenario. However, I think the Suns would have to include picks which is where I would likely balk.

I think that's more urban legend than fact, at least worded this way. Yes, the nervous sweating was a factor but I highly doubt it was the only reason they passed. It's not like he was a perfect prospect in every way, he had more than his share of weaknesses. And I watched him develop as a young teenager and then into college and I never foresaw the kind of player he has become.

I'm not so sure we have to include assets. We are facilitating a trade between the Spurs and Lakers. The Lakers need to get rid of Deng if they want to build a 3 star superteam and the Spurs don't want Deng's contract.

If we take Deng's contract that has 2 years remaining for 36M, then we need to be compensated or else we don't help. Hence we get Ball. Plus, there has been speculation that Lebron and his posse would not want Ball on the team.

In fact, many see Ball as a negative asset as well for obvious reasons.

He’d be great for Booker and Ayton but there’s certainly risk. The fan base would probably revolt because of Lavar.

Ball can't have much trade value now because of the Lavar factor. If he's traded to the Suns and it doesn't work, either on the court or because Lavar becomes too big of a problem, then he has even less value while the Suns try to move him. I think his value would fall close to Chriss or Bender levels if he's traded once and then that new team tries to trade him away without even having him for a full year. So Ball as compensation to make the Lakers a new superteam isn't worth it, IMO. We'd need more than that. Maybe Ingram? I'd prefer Kuzma but the Spurs will have first dibs since they're sending Leonard to the Lakers and I can't see them passing on Kuzma and Ingram.

I want the Lakers 2017 draft class for doing the trade. Make it hurt.

I think the super max is one of the better things added. It has actual qualifiers to it so players can't just demand it because they think they deserve it. They need to prove they earned it and only a select few do. It keeps players like Bledsoe from demanding top dollar because he hasn't received the accolades required to get paid top dollar. I know it can backfire, like John Wall or Blake Griffin, but they had to establish it first. Now they can adjust it, making it harder to achieve, so those sorts of players don't qualify in the future and it only goes to true franchise players like Lebron, Leonard, Curry.

Or you just need 10 years of experience to sign a 35% max. So... yes and no.

I have some basketball related concerns about Ball but they are trivial compared to my concerns about the impact of Lavar. I was one of the first Ball fans on this board and I did a Kidd360 on him about 3 months before the draft. I want no part of Lavar, for any reason.

I don't think he'll ever be a very good player, because his shot is such a liability. He sees the floor well and is effective in transition, but it's too easy for a good defense to expose his weaknesses in the half-court set. I just don't think anyone with a shot that broken can be an effective guard in this day and age.

His father makes the decision even easier.

I think I am here. He can get off his shot some, so he just has to make them when he gets them off. But there is no fixing that shot form. He is a left eye dominant right hander. He would have to change form and shoot with his left eye closed or shoot left-handed to fix it. Neither is happening. What you see is what you get with Lonzo's shot.

I kind of admired LaVar at first - it takes a lot of moxie to stand up to the big shoe companies. But all the crap since then had me doing a Kidd360, as AzSteve phrased it, on him. I never wanted Lonzo the player - I was relieved we weren't drafting where we had much chance of Fultz or him being available. The Suns FO and coaches have not done a good job dealing with any player with issues so why go looking for trouble. I put Leanhard in that same category.

Still surprised that Hornets wanted to get Dwight out of there so bad they took on Mosgov's contract, which has an extra year on it. Why not just buyout Dwight? He's due $23 million this year while Mosgov has $33 million owed to him between the next 2 seasons. Jordan has to be one of the worst owners in the NBA. Nobody likes calling him out though because he's the GOAT. It doesn't help his legacy though with how awful of a decision maker he's been. Even before he became a full owner he was an awful executive for the Wizards. He was key voice who spoke up for selecting Kwame Brown. Then he made another comeback and broke him mentally in practice. Since he retired he did help bring a team back to Charlotte but since then he's made awful signings, horrible draft picks, and bad trades. I don't think you can look at the history of that team and find 1 great deal they've made, either a trade, draft pick, or a free agent signing.


Damn shame that Dwight ever left LA though. Had he resigned like they wanted him to, his 5 year max deal would just now be expiring. He's fallen off really far in that time. Staying in LA might have helped him actually. He's bounced around a bit since leaving. Definitely not the top Center in the league like he was viewed 6-7 years ago.
