Texas softball slugger Katie Stewart tied a school record for most home runs in a single season, coach Mike White got ejected, and the No. 7 Longhorns secured the series Saturday with an eventful 6-1 win over Kentucky.
Now, Texas (37-8, 14-6 SEC) will try and claim its first SEC series sweep in a month Sunday against the struggling Wildcats (26-25, 1-20) Sunday at noon in Kentucky.
Stewart's seventh-inning grand slam Saturday not only ensured the win, it also tied the single-season program home run record of 23, which is also held by teammate Reese Atwood. The catcher set the mark during the 2024 season. Right-hander Citlaly Gutierrez got the start and threw just 51 pitches over seven innings to earn the complete-game win. She did not allow a walk for her fifth straight game.
