The Texas UIL state semifinal playoff fields are set with the action getting under way later this week.
Currently there are eight teams from the Lone Star State listed in the MaxPreps national rankings. Seven of those teams have advanced to the semifinals with only the No. 22 Kingwood Mustangs missing out after losing two games in a best of three series to the current No. 14 Katy Tigers in the Class 6A Division II regional semifinals.
The Tigers are one of three ranked teams in that bracket, and they'll face the No. 49 Pharr-San Juan-Alamo [San Juan] Bears. The No. 22 Guyer [Denton] Wildcats will meet the unranked Forney Jackrabbits.
The Barbers Hill [Mt. Belvieu] Eagles were ranked No. 1 in the country heading into the playoffs, but they are currently sitting at No. 4, one spot behind the Melissa Cardinals. Those two teams are on a collision course to meet in the Class 5A Division state championship.

The Lake Creek [Montgomery] Lions have moved up to No. 2 as the lone ranked team from the Class 5A Division II ranks. The No. 10 Midway [Waco] Panthers share that distinction as the only ranked team in Class 6A Division I.
