In short, based on timing — inability to investigate the gambling issues in time — and the hope to avoid a distraction for teams prior to the season, there will be no draft. There is no other avenue for Sorsby to enter the NFL.

Brendan Sorsby's counsel, Jeffrey Kessler, tells
@YahooSports that the NFL's decision "is a violation of the collective bargaining agreement and we intend to pursue the player’s rights with the NFLPA."

Given this development I doubt he ever plays in the NFL.

He will enter the draft next season and the league will probably make it known he is facing a two year suspension.

I can't remember the NFL ever denying a player entry to the supplemental draft. They've let guys in who were ruled ineligible because of drugs (Josh Gordon), NCAA rule-breaking (Terrelle Pryor) and grades (Ahmad Brooks), over and over.

Clearly, the NFL is drawing a line here.

Gambling is so good for the NFL right now, they are going to max react to anything that threatens the "integrity" of the game. I hope these dudes understand they are risking their careers if they are caught gambling on the NFL while being an employee of it. These sites will rat out players in a second.

And these state approved sites are already good enough to track IP addresses/locations in case you are operating an account for another person along with using AI to track/compare betting patterns. Or so I hear.

Imagine the betting isn’t OK but you could beat your wife or your girlfriend no big deal. Don’t ever take morality lessons from professional sports athletes or anyone associated with it.

Doubtful he faces a suspension...this is effectively a suspension for him. If he keeps his nose clean, they'll let him into 2027 draft without any extra punishment. Now, if he gets a court injunction or something though NFLPA and the league is forced to have the Supplemental Draft, then I think the league lets it go through and suspends him for a year, anyway.

Speaking of gambling...Cardinals are +11 vs the Chargers week 1.

Also, Cameron Boozer +350 to go #2 overall in the NBA draft is a decent bet.

(I will get you to that 9000 bet mark @602 Native )

The NFL’s decision to bypass the Supplemental Draft does not make Brendan Sorsby a street free agent. Sorsby is eligible to play for other professional leagues this upcoming season, but he’ll need to enter the 2027 April draft to join the NFL.

We’ll see. I expect the NFL to do what they can to keep him out of league, the letter they put out does not come out as they are preemptively punishing him, their stance is that he didn’t do the bare minimum to qualify for a supplemental draft.

They are “punting” even bothering to review the merits of his case until a later date.

Not betting on the NBA you won't. :Dold

That +11 right now is a good way for me to take the Chargers -11. Our defense is going to for sure be dog crap early just like last season.

Following up on this, I had forgotten that the league suspended Terrelle Pryor 5 games to equate with the 5 game suspension he was facing in college.

I absolutely think he's facing, at minimum, a 2 year suspension, and a possible lifetime ban.

There is precedence, Sorsby is cooked.

Terrelle Pryor's five-game suspension was upheld by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday.
The Oakland Raiders rookie quarterback had appealed the punishment, which was related to NCAA violations he committed while at Ohio State. Pryor entered the NFL supplemental draft instead of serving a five-game ban with the Buckeyes after being involved in a cash-for-memorabilia scandal that has put Ohio State under NCAA investigation.
"This smacks of a calculated effort to manipulate our eligibility rules in a way that undermines the integrity of, and public confidence in, those rules," Goodell said in his decision.

Our D actually played fairly well early last year. it was the O that was bad out of the gates. Barring a slew more of injuries this offseason, the Cardinals at +11.0 is a great bet in the opener.
