The Texas Tech baseball team is entering the final week of the season unless the Red Raiders win the Big 12 tournament. That quest starts Wednesday, May 21, with Tech facing Cincinnati in a first-round game at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
Cincinnati (31-23) is the No. 8 seed, Tech (20-32) the No. 9 seed in the 12-team, single-elimination bracket.
The Red Raiders will have to win four games to capture the Big 12's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. Sounds simple enough, but the last time Tech won more than three games in a row was from March 30 to April 12, 2024, when they won eight straight. The Red Raiders have played 76 games since with only three, three-game win streaks.
Cincinnati took two of three from Tech in the regular-season series April 4-6 in Lubbock. Though their record doesn't jump off the page, the Bearcats' No. 25 strength of schedule and No. 34 RPI positions them to earn an NCAA tournament invitation for the first time since 2019 and only the second time since 1974.
