The Bobcat bats exploded in the second inning. Vestal drew a walk, and infielder Kate Bubela launched a ball out of Cougar Softball Stadium to even the score. Keely Williams and Kamryn Bass picked up three RBIs on singles before Vestal gave Texas State an 8-2 lead on a three-run homer.

The Cougars got to Azua again in the fourth. A hit-by-pitch followed by two singles loaded the bases for infielder Maddie Hartley, who cut the deficit to 8-6 with a Grand Slam. Williams struck back in the sixth with a solo home run, followed closely by infielder Aiyana Coleman's three-run shot, her eighth of the season.

Texas State pitcher Chesney Davis stepped in for the save in the seventh. Although she earned two outs, she also gave up two runs in the process. Azua returned to the game, recording her fifth strikeout of the day to end it.
