Texas A&M softball is one win away from its first conference title since 2008.
The No. 1-ranked Aggies will have to battle No. 1-seeded Oklahoma for the SEC conference title crown. Although A&M has been ranked No. 1 by several polls and is No. 1 in RPI, Oklahoma won the regular season title by a half-game.
Neither team has played one another in the regular season, and the last time the Aggies (45-9, 16-7) faced the Sooners was when Oklahoma (45-7, 17-7) run-ruled A&M 8-0 on Feb. 24, 2023.
Since arriving in Athens, Ga., for the tournament, the Aggies have only played 10 total innings of softball. They beat South Carolina 12-4 Wednesday night in the quarterfinals for the first conference tournament run-rule in program history. Then, against in-state rival Texas, the Aggies trounced the Longhorns 14-2; prior to this year, the only team the Aggies beat in the tournament was South Carolina, going 2-10 since joining the league.

Coming into the SEC conference title game, the Aggies are playing the 2024 Big 12 conference champions and four-time NCAA College World Series champions. Senior right-hander Sam Landry (19-4, 2.04 ERA), leads the Sooners in the circle and has been lights out all season with 154 strikeouts. Be weary of the big hitters for the Sooners Ailana Agbayani and Ella Parker. Both combine for 105 hits, 71 RBIs and this season and 14 home runs.
The Aggies, however, have hitting assets everywhere. Junior third baseman Kennedy Powell hit her first home run against South Carolina, sophomore designated player Mya Perez had five RBIs against the Gamecocks and freshman second baseman KK Dement crushed two home runs against Texas.
Powell has said that head coach Trisha Ford talks about getting ahead early against a team and to upset the No. 1 seed in the tournament, the Aggies will have to do just that.
