Texas A&M softball notched a 10-0 run-rule victory Tuesday night against Sam Houston.
Senior pitcher Emily Leavitt faced 17 batters for the Aggies and struck out five of them for her second win. She gave up one hit to the second batter of the game but was perfect for the rest of the shutout.
The A&M offense was just as productive at the dish.
Junior infielder Kennedy Powell led off with a left field single. But back-to-back doubles from Amari Harper and Mya Perez put the first runs on the board. Mac Barbara and Koko Wooley singles brought in Perez for the early 3-0 lead.
The offense kept going in the second inning with two singles. Wooley was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Perez for her first career grand slam to make it 7-0 in the third. Perez finished with six RBIs and reached the bases for the 30th time this season.
Barbra and Wooley singled and an Allie Enright two-run RBI double extended the lead 9-0. Enright came home to cap off A&M's scoring thanks to a KK Dement sacrifice fly.
The Aggies matched their season high of 14 hits, going 14-for-24 at the dish and were 7-for-11 with runners in scoring position. A&M finished the night with two runners left on base, and it was the second fastest game the Aggies had this season with a final time of 1 hour and 26 minutes.
The Aggies play North Texas in College Station on Wednesday night.
