The first Texas A&M baseball player is off the board in the 2026 MLB Draft, as the Washington Nationals selected second baseman Chris Hacopian with the 11th overall pick.
That makes him the highest-selected position player in school history, after spending his graduate season with the Aggies in 2026. Hacopian is also just the eighth position player to become a first-rounder in the First-Year Player Draft, according to TexAgs.
One of the top prospects in Texas A&M history is headed to The Show to compete for the Nationals' organization.
The Maryland native joined the Aggies' roster after spending two seasons with the Terrapins. In 2025, Hacopian produced massive numbers in 52 starts for Maryland, batting .375 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI. He started all 42 games for the Maroon and White this season, recording a .319 batting average with 52 hits, 11 homers, and 41 RBI.
Hacopian battled through back spasms and a fractured leg to become a massive key in Texas A&M's postseason run, which ended in a loss to USC in the Bryan-College Station Regional. Despite those injuries, Hacopian remains one of the most talented athletes in this year's draft class, boasting a powerful swing and elite fielding when healthy.
Entering the first round of the draft on Saturday, he was ranked as the No. 10 prospect by MLB. He is a consistent hitter with all the tools to make a splash in professional baseball as he continues to develop in Washington's system.
