Texas A&M Track & Field is off to a hot start to the outdoor season with the men's team ranked No. 1 and the women's team ranked No. 3. Head coach Pat Henry believes this is one of the most talented teams he's had from top to bottom and will compete for a national title when it's all said and done.
Over the weekend, the Aggies competed in the Oregon Team Invitational in Eugene and had a strong showing. The men's team took second with 129 points, and the women's team came in first with 222.5 points. The A&M men's team took home the gold in a few events, like the 4x400m and the 100m. A name that will be familiar to Texas A&M football fans is Ernest Campbell.
Campbell, a former four-time high school state champion, won 10 points and gold in the 100 m finals with a time of 10.57. Fellow Aggie Blake Holland also won 6 points with a time of 10.65. The team will be back in action at the Penn Relays on April 24 in Philadelphia, PA.
Due to his commitment to Track & Field, Campbell was not present during the spring football season, but will be back to a loaded wide receiver room filled with speed and versatility, and just like former Texas A&M running back De'Von Achane, the track star is too fast to keep off the field, opening up an opportunity for Campbell to compete the Aggies primary kick/punt returner.
