There is a lot of money flowing through College Station these days, and it’s not all going to the athletes. Several Texas A&M head coaches have secured contract extensions in recent months, and the financial details are beginning to surface, including the newest deal for men’s basketball coach Bucky McMillan.
News first broke in March that McMillan had signed an extension after leading the Aggies to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in his debut season, a remarkable turnaround for a program that was projected to miss the postseason entirely. The accomplishment was even more impressive considering he inherited a roster with just one returning player and zero returning offensive production.
Until now, the only confirmed detail was that McMillan had been extended through 2032, a six‑year agreement. His original contract was a five‑year, $16 million deal starting at $3 million with $100,000 annual raises.
According to newly released figures, McMillan’s extension will start him at $4.1 million in 2026, a $1 million raise from his previous base salary. His new contract will average approximately $4.35 million annually, keeping his bonus structure intact while increasing the assistant coaching salary pool by $200,000 to $2.4 million.
With this deal, Bucky McMillan now ranks among the top 30 highest‑paid coaches in college basketball, a rapid rise for a coach who arrived in College Station just a year ago with a system, a vision, and a roster built almost entirely from scratch.
