Danielle Hunter isn't going anywhere following the 2026 season.
According to reports, the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end on a one-year, $40.1 million contract extension, keeping him at NRG Stadium through the 2027 season. The deal is fully guaranteed and is expected to help save $14 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap.
Hunter, who signed with Houston in 2024, was voted second-team All-Pro in 2025 after finishing with a team-high 15 sacks, which ranked among the top three in the league. Over the past two seasons, Hunter's totaled 27 sacks and 36 tackles for loss since joining forces with All-Pro counterpart Will Anderson Jr.
The Texans continue to revamp the defense entering 2026 following a top-three finish in every defensive category. Hunter was the first Texans player to get a new deal this offseason, but he won't be the last. Anderson, the No. 3 pick in 2023, is expected to become the highest-paid defensive player in league history.
Anderson had a career year in 2025, totaling 20 tackles for loss and 12 sacks while earning his first career first-team All-Pro selection and second Pro Bowl nod.
Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, who earned his first Pro Bowl nod, is expected to get a deal done as he enters the final year of his three-year contract. All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. recently restructured his contract to free up over $12 million in cap space. At the same time, nickel defender Jalen Pitre is also expected to restructure his three-year, $39 million contract to free up more cap space.
