- The World No.10 has a history of on-court outbursts and has previously shared his dislike of playing on clay courts
Tennis player Daniil Medvedev smashed his racket to pieces after losing a match to Matteo Berrettini in Monte Carlo.
The Russian sportsman, 30, experienced his first loss of a tour-level match without winning a game during the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday, April 8.
In footage shared by the BBC on X, Medvedev, who suffered a 6-0 6-0 loss during the 49-minute match, was filmed smashing up his tennis racket six times and angrily tossing it across the court.
The racket could be seen bending as Medvedev repeatedly whacked it on the clay court, as the crowd cheered with every strike.

Medvedev's racket was so destroyed that it was hanging in two parts, as Medvedev tossed it into a trash can after his outburst.
The World No.10 has previously expressed his dislike of playing tennis on a clay court, previously describing it as "a surface for losers" and being "like a dog in the dirt," according to BBC Sport.
Wildcard Berrettini, 29, is ranked 80 places below Medvedev.
This is not the first time Medvedev has exploded during a match. Tennis fans may remember that he threw a fit at the US Open in 2025 after a photographer walked on the court.
The tennis pro and former US Open champion smashed his racket at the end of the match after becoming enraged that his opponent, French player Benjamin Bonzi, was given the opportunity to have a second first serve after missing his first when a cameraman illegally walked onto the court.

The umpire allowed Bonzi a second chance, which appeared to upset Medvedev.
Medvedev encouraged the crowd at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, N.Y., to loudly “boo” the decision and was heard asking the umpire, Greg Allensworth, “Are you a man?”

Medvedev was then seen sitting on a bench and smashing his racket apart in frustration and did not stop until it was completely wrecked.

His wife, Daria Medvedeva, was seen walking out of the arena amid the moment.
It is unknown whether she attended the Monte Carlo Masters match on Wednesday.
Medvedev met his now-wife when they were teenagers playing competitive tennis alongside each other. In 2014, he sent her an Instagram message and the pair exchanged phone numbers.
They two wed four years later in an intimate ceremony in September 2018.
In 2022, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Alisa.
They kept their next pregnancy private and announced the birth of their second child on Instagram in January 2025.
"She's one of the most important members of my team," the former No. 1-ranked player told reporters of his wife back in 2019.
