When it comes to NFL branding, the Tennessee Titans have generally stuck to what they know.

Going back to the Titans’ days as the Houston Oilers, the primary logo has changed twice and the colors are intact, even as uniform schemes have changed through the years. Compare that to the Washington Commanders, who appeared to be testing a logo change — it would be the team's eighth — on their website recently.

Branding has come into focus after a Tennessee Titans logo leak raised questions about whether the team is considering a change.

Will the Tennessee Titans get new uniforms?

That hasn’t been confirmed. Maybe the better question after the Titans new logo leak is — why change now?

The Titans would love to write a new, victorious chapter into the organization’s history book as losses have piled up in recent seasons. NFL teams in similar positions have historically turned to rebranding for a fresh start.

The New England Patriots had a stunning rebrand in 1993 going from “Pat the Patriot” and his three-point stance to the “Flying Elvis” head Pats fans know today. The Miami Dolphins instituted a similar change in 2013, removing the football helmet from its dolphin logo.

At the time of the change, the Patriots were fresh into the coach Bill Parcells era after a period of poor results on the field. The Dolphins were in a similar place, with three winning seasons in 10 years before the rebrand.

That brings us to the Titans, who have suffered four consecutive losing seasons and recently sat at home and watched Mike Vrabel — whom Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk fired in 2024 — coach the Patriots in this year’s Super Bowl.

Tennessee Titans uniform redesign would not be a first

There, of course, was the first uniform redesign when the team moved from Houston to Nashville. The Titans eventually ditched the oil rig logo in place of their current shield-and-flame.

The Titans unveiled new uniforms again in 2018 with three primary uniform color combinations — Navy home jerseys, white away jerseys and an alternate Titans light blue jersey — and new fonts. This ushered in navy as a more primary color.

The old white helmet with two navy blue stripes was replaced with a navy blue one with a two-toned silver stripe similar to the Titans sword. It also had a metallic silver face mask. The uniforms had a subtle nod to the sword throughout.

The Titans freshened things up in 2009, 2023 and 2024 by wearing throwback Houston Oiler uniforms.

Powder blue, red, white and silver colors have remained pretty consistent with the franchise going back to the Bum Phillips days in Houston.

Powder blue was the most prominent color.

The organization still includes much of that scheme into today’s design, though the look is much different.
