Tennessee safety Jakobe Thomas, a potential starter, plans to enter the transfer portal, Knox News has learned.

It's a peculiar move for Thomas, who jumps into the portal just before it closes on April 25.

He was a Tennessee fan as a child growing up in Tullahoma. He said he dreamed of playing in Neyland Stadium, and he got his chance for the Vols last season after transferring from MTSU to Tennessee.

Furthermore, Thomas was in line to potentially start in the 2025 season, replacing safety Will Brooks alongside returning starter Andre Turrentine.

Last season, Thomas played in all 13 games. He had 22 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery. At MTSU, he was one of the best safeties in Conference USA.

The 6-foot-2, 202-pounder has one season of eligibility remaining.

Thomas is the sixth UT scholarship player to enter the portal this spring, including defensive backs John Slaughter and Christian Charles.
