Adidas and Tennessee football revealed their first alternate uniforms of the new partnership today, showing off the Volunteers in ‘dark mode.’ The black jerseys were used for the first time back in 2009 by Adidas and later perfected by Nike.
Tennessee eventually moved to a look with a full black helmet, which the Volunteers and Adidas recreated here.

The new ‘dark mode’ look is nearly a carbon copy of Nike’s edition. Obviously, the big difference here is the new Adidas font, a nod back to the traditional looks of the 90s. An SEC patch was also added.
Tennessee kept all creative control in the new relationship here with Adidas and clearly took a “ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it” approach.
Tennessee has won these alternates at least one time per season in every season under Josh Heupel. The Volunteers have also kept going with the ‘smokey grey’ alternates, which Adidas will continue. Those are set to be revealed at a later date this month.
I’d expect an announcement on Tennessee basketball/baseball’s dark mode looks soon.
New fan apparel is set to hit store on Friday.
