Tennessee freshman Chase Kyes qualified for the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.

The U.S. Open will take place June 18-22.

Kyes competed at the Georgia site of the U.S. Open Final Qualifying, which was contested at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Georgia. He finished tied for fourth place in a field of 75 golfers to claim one of five spots in the major championship.

Kyes recorded a score of 11-under par in the 36-hole one-day format. He had a score of 67 in the first round an a 66 in the second round. The U.S. Open will be his first major tournament.

"My own expectations are to make it through," Kyes said. "I'm pretty good at golf and I just have to give myself some putts. If they go in, they go in. I had high hopes for today and it turned out alright."

Kyes competed in 12 tournaments for Tennessee during his freshman campaign. He recorded a 71.58 scoring average and 20 rounds of par or better.

Kyes had two top five finishes during the spring season. He will be one of three golfers with Tennessee ties in the fireld, joining Vols' sophomore Jackson Herrington and former Tennessee player Caleb Surratt. Herrington is making his second major tournament appearance, while Surratt will compete in a major for the first time.
