There are little telltale signs that we are getting closer and closer to the start of the college football season. One of the earliest is when SEC Media Days rolls around a little over a month before the start of the regular season. The others are the start of fall camps across the country and when the first preseason college football poll is released.
But we’re about to hit the first of those markers on Monday in Tampa, as the SEC Media Days will get underway.
Like every other team, Tennessee is sending representatives to the event. And the players being sent are rather notable. With no veteran quarterback, Tennessee is sending RB DeSean Bishop and linebackers Arion Carter and Jeremiah Telander along with Josh Heupel.
Bishop attending is certainly expected, as he’ll be one of the biggest pieces of the Vols’ offense and is a rising redshirt junior. Carter also makes sense, as he’ll be one of the most important pieces in the middle of the Vols’ defense this fall.
Telander is an interesting choice, and one has to wonder if that’s a sign that he’ll hold a significant role this fall in what is going to be a talent-laden linebacker room. Telander also popped up in the Adidas release video with Peyton Manning that the school put out, so perhaps there’s something to his prominent public role thus far going into the 2026 season.
We’ll hear from all three and Heupel this week in Tampa, and while we’ll surely hear plenty of all the right things you commonly hear, perhaps we’ll pick up a nugget or two that raises our antennae regarding the 2026 Tennessee Volunteers.
