The Tennessee football program landed another commitment for its 2027 recruiting class on Wednesday.

According to On3/Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, the Vols landed a commitment from three-star running back Asa Barnes. Barnes chose the Vols over the Arkansas Razorbacks, Florida State Seminoles, and USC Trojans.

Barnes is the No. 22 recruit in his home state (Tennessee) and the No 36 running back recruit in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 551 overall recruit in the nation.

Barnes is the 19th commit in the Vols’ 2027 recruiting class, which ranks 21st nationally, per 247Sports. There’s still plenty of time to improve that ranking, too.

The Vols are coming off a 2025 season that saw them finish with an 8-5 record after losing in the Music City Bowl. They missed the College Football Playoff after making it during the 2024 season.

The 2026 season will be Josh Heupel’s sixth as head coach, and he will try to bring the Vols back to the CFP. He has compiled a 45-20 record in five seasons at the helm.

The Vols will open the 2026 season at home against the Furman Paladins before going on the road to play the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets out of the ACC. Their first SEC game will be at home against the Texas Longhorns on Sept. 26.
