Tennessee baseball signee Cole Koeninger will play for the Vols next season after going unselected in the first 15 rounds of the 2026 MLB Draft, according to multiple reports on July 12.
Koeninger, a shortstop and right-handed pitcher, was MLB Pipeline's No. 99 prospect entering the draft. He is the third-highest ranked member of Tennessee's 2026 recruiting class, per Perfect Game, at No. 14 in the country and will come to campus as the Vols' top incoming freshman after Jared Grindlinger and Trevor Condon were selected in the first round of the 2026 draft.
Koeninger is from Keller, Texas, and committed to Tennessee in November 2024. He picked the Vols over Oklahoma State, LSU and Texas.
Koeninger played with USA Baseball's U18 national team in 2025, winning a gold medal at the U18 World Cup as a reliever. This spring, he led Keller to its first Texas state championship and was named MVP of the 6A Division I tournament. He had a 1.37 ERA with 66 strikeouts on the mound and hit .440 with six home runs.
