No. 4 seed VCU (38-24) defeated No. 2 seed Tennessee (38-22), 5-4, Saturday in an elimination game of the 2026 NCAA Tournament Chapel Hill Regional. The game was contested at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The Vols led, 2-0, in the third inning after Reese Chapman hit a two-run home run. The Rams scored in the third inning on a solo home run by Trent Adelman.
VCU led, 3-2, after the fourth inning when Quinn Maher recorded a RBI on a ground out and Alec Warden hit a RBI on a sacrifice fly. The Rams scored two runs in the fifth inning after Nate Kirkpatrick hit a two-run double.
Stone Lawless hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for the Vols, making the score, 5-3. He also recorded a RBI in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly.
Tegan Kuhns started for Tennessee and pitched four innings. He allowed three runs, four hits and one walk. Kuhns recorded six strikeouts, while totaling 70 pitches, including 46 strikes.
Brady Frederick pitched 0. 2 innings in relief for the Vols. He allowed two runs, two hits and two walks. Frederick recorded one strikeout, while totaling 25 pitches, including 11 strikes.
Mark Hindy pitched 0.2 innings and allowed one hit and one walk, while totaling 10 pitches (five strikes).
