One of the coolest parts of expansion teams is the chance they give to players who otherwise might not have gotten as big a role.
Brittney Sykes has gotten a leading part for the Toronto Tempo, and she's seizing it with everything she's got.
Sykes has always been a bucket, dating back to her days growing up in New Jersey and then starring collegiately at Syracuse.
In the WNBA, too, she has scored when given opportunities, but they haven't been consistent. She didn't make an All-Star Game for the first time until last season.
Now with the Tempo, Sykes is second in the league in scoring average in the early going.
Two games ago, she dropped a career-high 38 points.
She followed that up with a casual 31 on Tuesday night.

A season ago, maybe the brightest shining light of the expansion draft was Veronica Burton with the Golden State Valkyries.
This year, a bunch of players are seizing their chances with the Tempo and the Portland Fire. Sykes is doing that as well as anyone, and it's really cool to see.
