"I just wanted to make one comment about the tragedy that took place in Rhode Island," Sullivan said on Tuesday, Feb. 17. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the people that were affected with the shooting in the rink in Pawtucket. That certainly is close to home for me, growing up in Massachusetts. Two of our coaches are from Rhode Island.

"What a terrible tragedy and something that hits close to home. I just wanted to acknowledge the incident and to let everyone know how sorry we are and that we feel for them and for their friends and their family."

Sullivan is from Marshfield, Massachusetts. Assistant coach John Hynes is from Warwick, Rhode Island, and assistant coach David Quinn is from Cranston, Rhode Island.

The American men's hockey team plays in quarterfinal action on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
