If, as speculated, that under a new CBA teams would be required to spend at least 92% of their CAP number on players just how much would that effect the Cards? I have no idea what percentage of the CAP number we have been spending for the last decade or so. At least we would have a floor. I doubt Mr. B would like this at all.

Of course accountants can always find ways around such numbers.

John H, as you know, CAP dollars are different from actual dollars. We'll have to see if the 92% refers to which type of dollars, when the CBA is finalized.

There has been a salary floor since 1992 and before the CBA expired we generally were close to the cap ceiling with a couple million saved in case we needed to pick up a player due to injury.

Another 'Mr. B is cheap thread". When will it end?

As Joe Shmo has documented time after time, this ended with the additional revenues from the new stadium. Whether in cap or total football related expenditures the Cards are in the upper echelon. Last year, if anything, was an aberration under the Mike B. regime.

Some major contracts came off the books and there was no where to spend the cash. Do some stop to think about how talent poor last year's FA market was? Let's just wait and see how things play out. Who knows... there may be in fact some grudging respect paid to the Bidwill's and Graves at the end of the process.

P.S. When it comes to the issue of creative accounting, the NFLPA has their accountants too.

From what I am reading it is vialble cash and not on the book cash.

A lengthy new CBA—between six and eight years, for example—would enable the league to turn to its broadcast partners and negotiate more lucrative contracts.
One item that has the players’ support is a salary floor keeping teams within 90 percent of the cap. Recently, particularly in 2010 when there was no cap, several teams whose revenue streams don’t match up with the richer clubs did not spend anywhere near what those teams did.
The proposal would require the full salary cap spending to be in cash.

When you have the history of winning we have you tend to get some labels pasted on you, if you are the owner. Mark Cuban is known as a big spender which I think he richly deserves.

I have been waiting for over 60 years as a fan to see how things play out. I am beginning to see a trend.

The Bidwill's have one asset: The Cards.

Mark Cuban made a zillion outside of B-ball, to which he has access.

There's a difference.

I realize the Cards have spent a good amount of money since UOP was constructed. I no longer label them as cheap. I do still label them as antiquated in some of their financial decision making and I hold one person responsible for that.

CC, we didn't need to go spend money on other FA's but simply spend enough to keep Dansby. Maybe it would never have happened because Dansby wanted out no matter what but some of that could be traced back to the label John H has such a hard time of letting go.

The longer Michael stays and continues to get more and more say so the quicker the cheap label will fade.

The Cards (through tagging) made Karlos a very, very rich man before he left town. So, again, don't see where cheap comes into it. To the best of my knowledge.. the Cards would have had to pay a serious premium to Dansby, given taxes in Florida.

As I posted I don't know that we could have kept Dansby if his mind was made up to leave. I didn't call them cheap but antiquated. The Fla sales tax is an issue but I read that the cost of living or something kinda makes it a wash. So getting creative and guareenting more $ and bigger bonus and or........This is where we still need to improve IMHO. I didn't list Rolle because I prefer Rhodes but again we stopped just short of getting him re-signed.

To be clear I'm more then positive the Cards will spend money and go after FA's etc.
