Lionel Messi and team Argentina appear to be staying locally, as multiple videos circulating social media show them arriving at the Hilton in Short Hills ahead of the World Cup final this weekend.
Fans awaited the team's arrival at the hotel, which didn't come until after 11 p.m. July 16, according to Morristownnj.com, which wrote in a post on Facebook, "Fans were kept well away from the team's entrance, and only hotel staff and FIFA credentialed media were allowed near the arrival area."
When contacted by NorthJersey.com, the Hilton said it could not confirm or deny the team's stay.
Argentina is set to take on Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.
In a come-from-behind win, Argentina stunned England, winning the semifinal match in Atlanta 2-1 and paving the way for what could be their second consecutive championship this Sunday.
Team Spain is staying at The MC Hotel in Montclair, the facility's owner, Jeff Sica, confirmed to NorthJersey.com. The team bus arrived at the hotel around 10:30 p.m. on July 15, the night after Spain's 2-0 semifinal victory over France in Arlington, Texas.
