A trio of Taunton residents took their track and field talents to the national level over the weekend.

Taunton High 2026 graduates Max Cassinelli and Sophia Olaniyan, as well as Bristol-Plymouth rising senior Mary MacDonald, all competed individually at the 2026 New Balance Nationals Outdoor, held at the University of Pennsylvania's historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia from Thursday, June 18-Sunday, June 21.

MacDonald led the way locally, taking home the silver medal with a second place finish in the women's 400-meter wheelchair (1:17.63, personal best), improving nearly five seconds on her previous personal best time of 1:23.29 at the MIAA Meet of Champions.

Cassinelli, meanwhile, finished 10th overall in the women's javelin (132 feet 2 inches, personal best) while Olaniyan, a Western Michigan University commit, finished 28th overall in the women's discus (124 feet 1 inch).

The placings in Philadelphia mark the end of strong seasons for all three Taunton residents, as Olaniyan and MacDonald were crowned champions in the discus and 400-meter wheelchair respectively at the MIAA Meet of Champions on June 4.

Cassinelli, a UMass Dartmouth commit, was crowned MIAA Division 1 champion in javelin and finished runner-up at both the Meet of Champions and New England Championship.
