Tarik Skubal gives props to Dodgers teammates for impressive debut appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Tarik Skubal, after much controversy over the past few days following his trade from the Detroit Tigers to the Los Angeles Dodgers, finally made his debut for his new ballclub. Alas, Skubal’s debut did not end up going according to plan. While he was solid enough from the mound, the Dodgers’ bats went quiet in a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
Skubal lasted six innings on the mound in his Dodgers debut, allowing just two earned runs on four hits and two walks against six strikeouts. While the 29-year-old wasn’t exactly at his best quite yet, there’s no denying that he pitched well against a tough opponent in the Cubs. But Skubal knows that LA’s defense also helped cover for him on multiple occasions, so he gave props to his new teammates for having his back.
“No doubt. (Andy) Pages, he covered a ton of ground on all those soft fly balls. (Kyle Tucker) made some good plays, too. Even the things that go unnoticed, just getting the ball back in on a (Pete Crow-Armstrong) knock to keep him at first base. That stuff all matters. It’s a ton of fun to be a part of and pitch in front of, for sure,” Skubal told reporters, via Adrian Medina of Roundtable Sports.

“It felt like my major league debut in terms of the nerves running through. But I think that’s all good stuff.” #Dodgerspic.twitter.com/T6vtcolVec

Skubal, according to reports, had been angling for a move to the Dodgers for some time now, so it has to be a dream come true for him to join this baseball powerhouse.
The Tigers only made it as far as the ALDS during Skubal’s time with the team, and the Dodgers should give him a legitimate chance to compete for a World Series title. LA’s starting rotation has been ravaged by injuries, but Skubal is coming in to front the rotation with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, making it as if they didn’t lose any crucial pieces to begin with.
LA did lose in Skubal’s debut, but they have to be very pleased with what they saw in his first game with the team.
