Director: Ben Falcone
Screenwriter: Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone

Plot Summary: Tammy (Melissa McCarthy) is having a bad day. She's totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint, and instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbor in her own house. It's time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she's broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), is her only option—with a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Not exactly the escape Tammy had in mind. But on the road, with grandma riding shot gun, it may be just what Tammy needs.

I liked her in Bridesmaids and thought she was funny in The Heat. However, I can't bring myself to watch this garbage. At this point it feels more like they are making fun of her on screen versus giving her a decent part.

Melissa and her husband Ben co-wrote this and he directed it. Plus Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates?

Count me in!

Yeah, this just looks like a sad commentary on why I can't stand a lot of my fellow Americans these days.

That said, she should absolutely cash in on it. As an actor, I firmly feel that, until you're, to coin a phrase from Zack and Miri, 'Oprah rich', sell out for da big bucks. Now, once you're set for life, sure, you stop doing crap like this and hope it's not too late, that you're not pigeonholed. If she just does this her whole career, yes, I'll bag on her without mercy.

Her appeal is not some sort of comment on middle America, nor Americans in general.

It speaks directly to the appeal to her core audience (ie. middle-class women) you knuckleheads.

Women (for the most part) find her work funny, and entertaining. My wife loves everything she's been in since "The Gilmore Girls". And since we're not rapists we guys either learn to appreciate it too, or at the very least, we learn to tolerate it.

My wife liked her in Gilmore Girls (so did I) but has threatened to burn our Home Theater to the ground if I ever buy her another Melissa McCarthy movie. I don't think she'll ever recover from Identity Thief. I'm not sure we've actually identified her core audience in this thread.

Ya I don't get it.. It's a movie, she's an actress.. Some people think movies are suppose to solve world hunger or global warming or whatever.. I think Melissa is pretty funny. I watch Mike and Molly every Monday.. She makes me laugh..

So there you have it, Melissa McCarthy's core audience. Ken's wife, Gee and Thirty-two. Venn diagram time.

Loved her in Bridesmaids and Hangover 3.

I'll see this movie, either in the theater or on netflix. I think she's funny, says middle-class woman 'Merica. :)

Can't take life too seriously.
