Tabea Eitel of the Texas Longhorns is in second place in the heptathlon and Iana Ahetz-Etcheber stands ninth Wednesday after the opening day at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Eitel totaled 3,414 points through four events, while Ahetz-Etcheber posted 3,263 points to keep both Texas athletes in the top 10 heading into the final day of competition. Eitel ran 14.03 seconds in the 100 hurdles to score 974 points and place sixth after the first event. Ahetz-Etcheber to finish 10th.
Ahetz-Etcheber made a big move in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches to record the second-best mark of the day. She added 891 points to climb into second place overall with 1,852 points. Eitel cleared 5-7 to add 810 points and move into third with 1,829 points.

Continuing her strong showing, in the shot put Eitel threw 42 feet, 3.5 inches to move into second place overall. Ahetz-Etcheber recorded a mark of 10.01m (32-10.25) and stood eighth after three events.
Eitel ran 25.24 seconds in the 200 meters to close day one in second place with 3,414 points. Ahetz-Etcheber finished in 25.06 and sits ninth with 3,263 points.
The heptathlon resumes at 10 a.m. Thursday to conclude the multis competition.
Day 2 will also feature a full schedule of events. On the track, competition includes the women’s 400-meter hurdles, men’s and women’s 800 meters and 1,500 meters, the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase and both 5,000-meter races. In the field, events include the men’s hammer throw, men’s and women’s pole vault and the men’s B section javelin.
