I'm not going to hate on Holt, I'm just going to say that if the report is true, then I agree with the Cardinals front office. I'm sure Holt is a good guy who gave it his all, but he's not a good fit for the Arizona Cardinals. Good luck to him in the rest of his career.

Forgot this was Torry's brother, I thought all year Justin Lucas had just changed his name. Good riddance.

Hey! Justin Lucas actually had a couple of big ints and returns while here which is more than can be said for Mr. Holt. Remember one before end of 1st half against Giants at SDS that turned game in our favor. So don't pick on Justin, he was a good player!

How many years in a row will this make it where Rod Graves has had to cut a player within 12 months of signing or extending him?

It happens every year all over the league, just be glad he had the foresight to structure the deal with roster bonus' instead of signing bonus' so we can save A LOT more against the cap in future years

I don't hate the guy either, but that doesn't mean he's a great defensive player. There are lots of nice guys who played in college who aren't suited for the NFL. Perhaps he is one of them. Perhaps not. I just hope the Cards don't pay him all that money to find out, especially since it is rather obvious after this season that he is not the player we need.

i would have cut Holt if he cost the cap 3.5 million. Saving 3.5 is just a bonus.

Really? Can you name three teams/players it happened to last season? I think that this is three or four years in a row that it happened with Graves.

I think the "it happens every year" statement is a pretty shallow one. Sure it happens, but to say that every team in the league annually signs guys to longterm deal and then releases them within a calendar year as common is simply not true.

It happens with regularity to players in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of deals, but rarely within a year of signing a large extension or new contract.

Hey, hows that LA football team doing? oh yeah, you don't have one.

Feel free to jump on the Cardinals bandwagon now, you can beat the rest of the LA crowd that will hoop on when ML tears it up next year.

In that respect, how many teams signed FA's to a long term deal who didn't work out and then had to swallow dead cap costs for a few years?

No one has a crystal ball. It happens to all teams from time to time.

How many draftees did the Patriots cut in the past two years?

Foresight or neccesity considering most (not all) of our free agents turning out to be duds history.

Also if you have the foresight to see that a free agent has a chance to be that much of a dud why sign him in the first place?

And I like the use of 50-50 ratio Roster bonus to signing bonus as a tool. Just not 100-0 ratio or 75-25 ratio. It needs to be more balanced for todays cap and future cap.

The Cards have done a better job recently with free agents. Warner, James, Johnson, Okeafor and Berry all have worked out fairly well and Gandy and T.Smith performed better than many expected.

BTW: Just in case this hasn't been posted somewhere, Rashaan Curry, is our scout responsible for players on NFL rosters and in other Pro Football venues. (Arena etc.)

Came from the Eagles. Smart guy. Degree from Columbia U and valedictorian of his class in HS. Played DE at Columbia but did not play in the NFL.

T smith played better than expected? I expected him to create a running game, it never happened.

I expected him to be like James Hodgins. He wasn't.

Actually made a difference in the running game at the beginning of the season from the year before. In 2006 opposing LBs would fill the holes right before or at the same time Edge arrived. This year Smith would take the LB out and the -1 yard run from 2006 became a 3-4 yard gain in 2007.

I'll have to go back and watch some dvr to double check but I think the running plays changed in the second half of the season where Smith wasn't leading through the gap like earlier in the year. I could be mistaken though.

You have to remember we have "Cardinal fan" expectations. In other words it doesn't take much to exceed them.

Some interesting trivia I heard during a broadcast. James had the fewest negative run plays out of all starting RB's in 2006.

i think Terrell Smith met expectations

he wasnt paid a ton -- so the Cards signed a journeyman and got journeyman type production. nothing wrong with that.
