T. Holt to be cut soon per Jurecki

Mike Jurecki said today on the Bickley & Jurecki morning show that Terrance Holt S will be cut in the next two weeks as he is due a $1.5 million roster bonus. He is also making a salary of $2 million so the savings will be $3.5 million from the 2008 cap. He also said that Francisco will be the starter for now but Rolle will be moved to Safety.

I love Francisco as a backup for Wilson at SS...but playing he and wilson at the same time is a bad idea on passing downs, IMO.

Watching the AFC playoffs, I think it was Phil Simms who observed that the Colts use Bob Sanders and the Pats use Rodney Harrison is similiar fashion on passing downs: they patrol the middle 7-12 yard patterns.

Its the perfect spot for Wilson. Let him blast short crossing routes, and dont make him play 20 yards from the line of scrimmage.

Good move. The team seems willing to admit it made a bad signing and is making amends for the bad judgment. Sure, it creates the need to probably bring in another saftety, but I like this decision.

Agree. But it does make sense seeing how poorly Holt played and the bonus due Feb 1. Jurecki seemed pretty sure about this. But

We need better corners before we can allow our safeties to play up. If we left our corners without any safety help we would get killed on the deep ball.

There is NO WAY this team pays Terrence Holt $3.5 million for 2008 based on his play last season. Kent Somers has a note on his blog about Holt EARNING a $2-million roster bonus last year. He may have gotten one, but he sure didn't earn it.

you have two safeties over the top (theoretically, Francisco and Rolle) with Wilson "roaming" the short middle zone

Wilson and Rolle at Safety, I love it, Rolle has been deemed a Safetysince the draft, put him there!!! It would be great if the Cards switched the guy over finally!!! Nobody will miss Holt!!

I'm looking ahead to Rolle jumping all over the safety spot. He needs to be on the field and proved it this past season. He is a ball hawk and hits with intensity. A healthy Fransisco is very important special teams guy as well as needed in any safety spots. When he is healthy he plays hard nose football.

I'm just happy the dude is gone. Whatever we do from this point has to be an upgrade. He was largely my #1 disappointment/sellout this past year.

I feel bad about some of the things I have said about the guy throughout the season.

Judging from what he did (or didn't do) in Detroit I think as a whole we expected far too much from him. He didn't proclaim himself as the best, and you cant hate on him for getting his money, 'cause most (if not all of us) would do the same if we were we put in his shoes. While his play wasn't what we hoped for, he stayed healthy and came to play every week. I wish him all the best, just in another city or in a backup role here with a paycut.
