Syracuse is back in the market for a new head men’s basketball coach.
According tomultiple reports, the school has fired Adrian Autry after three seasons. The Orange’s season concluded Tuesday in the ACC tournament with an 86-69 loss to SMU.
Autry, who played at Syracuse in the early 1990s, was promoted to be the head coach of the Orange after longtime coach Jim Boeheim’s retirement at the end of the 2022-23 season. Autry had served as Boeheim’s associate head coach since the 2016 season.
However, Autry hadn’t been able to duplicate the success the Orange had under Boeheim. The Orange went 20-12 in his first season but missed out on the NCAA tournament. A season ago, Syracuse dropped to 14-19 overall.
Though Syracuse’s overall record was better in 2025-26, the Orange won one fewer ACC game and the season spiraled after a 3-1 start to ACC play.
Syracuse won just three of its final 14 ACC games and ended the season on a six-game losing streak counting the defeat to SMU. Syracuse lost by 37 points at Duke, by 20 pints at NC State and by double digits to North Carolina twice this season.
In early February, Carmelo Anthony appeared to express his displeasure with the team on social media after the first loss to North Carolina. The Syracuse great’s son Kiyan averaged eight points per game across 29 appearances as a freshman in 2025-26.
