Swooping in the sand: UNF beach volleyball team wins sixth ASUN title, second NCAA berth

The University of North Florida beach volleyball team will be the No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament May 2-4 in Gulf Shores, Ala., after winning its sixth ASUN title on Saturday at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala.

The Ospreys, who beat Stetson 3-0 in the conference championship match, will play No. 5 USC in the first round of the NCAAs, beginning at 10 a.m. EDT on May 2. The first three rounds will be aired on ESPN2 and the championship match will be aired on ESPN.

UNF is playing in its second NCAA Tournament. The Ospreys went 1-1 last year, beating Chattanooga in the first round and losing to USC in the second.

North Florida, seeded No. 2 in the ASUN tournament, swept the top-seeded Hatters after surviving a 3-2 semifinal over No. 3 Florida Gulf Coast.

The No. 1 doubles team of Cameron Humphries and Taylor Pierce won a three-set match over Nicole De Oliveira-Kaitlyn Luebbers 25-23, 19-21, 15-13; No. 3 Madison Espy-Marian Feliciano Sanchez beat Jacqueline Carpenter-Emma Soncrant 23-21, 21-18; and No. 5 Sophia Notaro-Andrea Da Silva topped Sydney Majick-Erin Miller 25-23, 23-21.

In the championship match against Stetson, UNF won the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 matches. Espy-Feliciano Sanchez beat Youna Coens-Caroline De Oliveria (STET), 21-16, 21-18; Eden Anderson-Hayden Woolridge rallied to beat Grace Goudy-Vanessa Hurnikova 14-21, 21-14, 15-12; and Notaro-Da Silva beat Madeline Camp-Julia Czurylo (STET), 21-13, 21-16.

Sanchez-Espy was named the 2025 ASUN Pair of the Tournament. Notaro-Da Silva joined them on the All-Tournament team.
