AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Texas prepares for their NCAA tournament First Four matchup against NC State, the Longhorns leading scorer guard Dailyn Swain is “really just focused on finishing the season as good as we can as a team”.

Swain has been the center piece for Texas’ success this season averaging 17.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assist, but is not focused on his professional future at the time. Instead, he’s locked in on a rematch against the Wolfpack.

Texas and NC State met each other in the Maui Invitational on Nov. 26 and the Longhorns came out on top 102-97. Swain recorded 14 points, six rebounds, and seven assists in the win, but now the stakes are larger. The winner advances to round one of the NCAA tournament and will face sixth-seed BYU in Portland, Oregon.

“Playing as hard as I can for the seniors and all the guys who won’t be able to play anymore,” Swain said. “Trying to make a deep run for coach Miller for his first year here at Texas and letting the country know how good of a coach he is and that’s the main thing.”

This isn’t Swain’s first time playing in the First Four. The 6’8 Columbus, Ohio guard scored 11 points in the same game last year, but he was playing for Xavier University and Sean Miller. The Musketeers beat the Longhorns 86-80, now he’s attempting to leave Dayton, Ohio with a win for the second consecutive year.

“The only good feeling I have [in University of Dayton Arena] is when we [Xavier University] beat Texas here last year, so I’m just trying to hold on to that as much as I can,” Swain said laughing.

Texas and NC State will play at 8:10 Tuesday night at University of Dayton Arena. Winner advances to the first round of the tournament to face six seed BYU Thursday in Portland, Oregon.
