There can only be two explanations for what we have seen from Philadelphia Eagles legend Brandon Graham. Either the fountain of youth's water supply flows through the plumbing in his home, or he's an alien. Those are our choices. Nothing else explains why he's so good at football at this stage of his life and why.

They used to say '30 is the new 20' and '40 is the new 30.' Any rational human being knows those are lies. 30 isn't the new 20. It's the same old 30. Ask any 30-year-old who got out of bed this morning and is dealing with yet another injury they suffered while sleeping.

Hamstring injuries during a good night's rest can be a common part of a 40-year-old's life. They can render a 'day-to-day diagnosis, yet Graham nears 40 and is still a good football player.

Can anyone provide better reasoning than we just offered? We repeat. He drinks from the fountain of youth, or he's an alien. We welcome a better and more believable explanation. You won't believe what was just reported about this guy.

Eagles star Brandon Graham isn't ruling out returning for a 17th NFL season.

We should have known something was up when Brandon Graham met with the media to announce his retirement. He told us he was riding off into the sunset. Then, seven months later, his team asked him to return out of necessity. He obliged, signing a one-year deal to play in his 16th NFL season.

He wasn't just a body. He played well and showed versatility, starting at the edge and eventually filling in as an interior defensive lineman. He appeared in nine games, notching eight tackles, three sacks, and three additional hits on the opposing quarterback on 113 defensive snaps.

During Philadelphia's locker cleanout day, he spoke with NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. When asked about his future, he offered a surprising response, but one we probably should have expected.

"Spoke to Brandon Graham briefly last night. He’ll take time to think, but don’t assume that’s it for his career. His body responded well, and he felt he was just getting into a groove down the stretch. He turns 38 in April, but had the look and sound of a guy that has football left."

Brandon Graham turns 38 on April 3rd, and yes, 40 is the same old 40. Yes, the average NFL career only lasts for a few seasons. Yes, we often believe the 30-year-old threshold is the NFL equivalent of senior citizenship.

Now and then, however, we find a freak of nature. Graham certainly qualifies. He's a professional and franchise icon. He knows his body. He prepares relentlessly.

Time will tell if he's back for an astonishing 17th NFL season. Honestly, we wouldn't bet against him. Howie Roseman's first-ever draft choice continues to prove he's one of his most impressive.

Nothing else needs to be proven, but if Graham can continue to add to his legacy while remaining effective, why not let him? It's certainly a fun story to keep on telling.
