Josh Bartelstein, CEO of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury franches, has been given a contract extension.
ESPN's Sham Charania reported on Monday, July 6, that Mat Ishbia, owner of the franchises, confirmed the extension to ESPN.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Charania also reported that Suns' second-year player Koby Brea is signing a two-way NBA contract to return to the team, which his agent confirmed to ESPN.
Brea, a 6-5 guard/forward, was a restricted free agent who spent much of last season with the G League Valley Suns but appeared in 12 games with the Suns as a rookie, averaging 3.8 points. With the Valley Suns, he averaged 21.3 points in 25 G League games.
The 36-year-old Bartelstein will continue overseeing the Suns and Mercury business and basketball operations. He joined the organization as Ishbia's first hire after he purchased the franchises in February 2023.
“From day one, I knew Josh was the right person to help build the culture and organization that I envisioned in Phoenix - on and off the court," Ishbia told ESPN, according to Charania. "He is my trusted partner in every aspect of our basketball (Suns and Mercury) operations and business side as well.
"His knowledge of basketball, care for our players and the strong relationships he has across the NBA and WNBA have been invaluable in building our success and will continue to shape our future. His leadership has elevated our entire organization."
Bartelstein played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines. He began his career in the Detroit Pistons' front office, hired as an executive assistant in 2015. He was eventually promoted to be the Pistons' assistant general manager, before he joined the Suns. Bartelstein's is the son of NBA agent, Mark Bartelstein.
