There’s measurements in shoes and shorts… and then there’s how athletic they are on the floor in an actual game.

They aren’t close. Gordon is one of the best athletes in NBA Game Play in the league. Period. Full stop. This dude didn’t even look like an elite athlete in college play. A good athlete, sure.

And that’s not to say he can’t be a good player. Maybe he can. But don’t tell people who watched both of them actually play they didn’t see what they see because of measurements taken off the court… especially when those making that claim also admit they really didn’t watch Koa play.
I agree.
But the truth...
The kid is only nineteen years old. His ballz aint even dropped yet..he can make massive improvement over the next few years as he physically matures...and he does that maturation under the tutelage of the best pro's in the business.
Granted, I have openly admitted I havent been close to the game for a few years. But this kid is a baller...and to grab him for what amounts to a few add-on picks is a smashing good deal.

... Im excited about it...and I wanted a PG, lol.

In the few clips I've seen his shot mechanics look fine. Not sure if he has 3pt range without changing something. Maybe try a push shot like Keaton Wagler (drafted #5 by the Clippers). That thing has deep range and is quite different from his (Peat's) current jumper.
he could also flatten it out to add range.

Watching Peat videos and he bulls over guys and uses his body to make space. Not sure in this "flopping" NBA, that's going to work well.

His age is one of things I like about the pick. Physicality, and bulk size, if not being that tall for his position.

He is like Livers but 19. I watched his mid range get block three times in one game. I thought for sure he was going back to the UA. I don't think he will play this year. But he will down the line and be good

If he can shoot, he'll be an excellent pick. If he can't, he'll be an ok pick at 30.

Success Rate of NBA Draft Picks at Pick #30

Based on historical data from 1989–2026, the success rate for draft picks at the #30 overall position is around 5–10%, depending on the methodology used to define “success.”

Historical performance (1989–2026)

  • 82games.com analysis (career PPG + RPG + APG rating) shows that at pick #30, roughly 5–10% of players are rated as “stars” (20+ rating), with the rest falling into “solid” (15–19.9) or “role player” (10–14.9) categories, and a significant portion (25–50%) classified as “deep bench” or “bust” www.82games.com.
  • This means that while some #30 picks have developed into impactful players, the majority have been role players or bench contributors, with only a small fraction becoming stars.

He has the basics size, drive, energy, big game experience, hometown guy and toughness, all the things you can't teach. It's possible he can learn to shoot well, so imo well worth pick 30.

If he bombs out, it's not a big deal.

i think the suns were tired of getting by by getting by

all of our bucket getters have to drop a nice move/crossover to create space before they drive

when we drafted maluach over queen i was more than happy but i wanted queen because he's a rhinoceros using his size to drive - like lebron - like zion - like luka - they not only use contact to bully their way to the hole they also draw fouls off said contact

book tries but defenses usually body him and/or get ahold of the ball - dillon does it but not against true forwards and bigs - when a big is covering brooks you'll see him turn into book - create space and go midrange if he can't get by

williams oso and maluach all need assistance - oso started driving on his own from uptop but not by pushing players back by utilizing his size ala aaron gordon - oso gets a step and flies by

rasheer might be the closest thing we have - we've seen him put his head down instead of going around - and we've seen it un-stagnate our offense

and like luka and lebron - when you bully your way into the paint - suddenly lift your arms - and just act like you're shooting - refs be calling that - you'll get your free throws

we have imo added a new dimension to our offense - screw the combine i've seen this man score in real time against championship level defenses - i think koa is way ahead of where rasheer was coming in

we haven't even got to his defense yet but i gotta go get water and beer for the big futbol game tonight

I don't think you have been watching to closely. It's what Dillon Brooks, Dylan Harper, and Lebron do all the time. You have to practically kill someone to get an offensive foul for charging nowadays.

The flopping that works is usually on screens and jump shots.

How is he like Livers?

Livers is far more of a finess player, and basically is only in the NBA for his 3 point shooting.

We will probably be looking at player comparisons for a while on Peat.

physically, he reminds me of Barkley. and considering he's only 19, that's exactly the way he could go. if we're lucky he might add an inch or two to his height, instead of just 20 pounds to his butt
What in the world are you guys talking about... Gordon... Barkley? We're talking about some of the best athletes the NBA has ever seen. This guy AIN'T THAT.

Hey, I am not the one comparing him to Larry Johnson. Avery Johnson, Larry's former teammate did that.

He does bring physical inside scoring, which was a weakness on this team. We will see if he can do it against NBA level defenders.

Realistically. If we get a starter and a quality backup out of Fleming and Peat, the Suns would be wildly successful in the last two drafts. I like the fact that this Suns mgmt team now is interested in developing young players. The Suns never did that before. Its refreshing.

agree to all of that. I'm just amazed at some of the comps people are throwing out there.

Everyone gets sillly around draft time. Koa needs to find a niche like Larry Nance Jr or Kenneth Faried and he will be around a long time and makes lots of money.

The comp CEILING for Koa Peat from what I have heard is Aaron Gordon/Paolo Banchero. A player who can put pressure on the rim, handle the ball, attack the basket, physical versatile defender who can guard multiple positions, strong resistance with one-on-one defense because of his strength and ability to rebound on both ends plus bring the ball up the court after a defensive board. Time will tell only 19 years old has a lot of time to develop.

These comps are usually just a category of player. Body type and playing style. And yes, athleticism to some degree. There are similarities in categories, but differences in magnitudes. He is young, and some have suggested he is still growing. He doesn't yet have his adult frame and musculature. I could see him ending up 6-8, 260.

He has 4 state championships, three junior level gold medals, and a final four appearance. I am curious to see if he was just lucky to be on good teams, or whether there are intangibles with him that produce wins. You all have watched more than I have.

can be shocking when people use all time greats as comps..
My opinion,...and what I think others are trying to say...is that the Suns have been in need of a big man that plays like a big man...and they just got one.

im thinking we were going draft queen last year - then maluach became avaliable - i also think if koa had stayed for another year there'd be zero percent chance of us landing him
