Dillon Brooks has no shortage of rivals around the league, but one stands out above the rest when it comes to unfinished business. Appearing on N3on’s Kick stream, the Suns forward was asked which NBA player he would box if given the chance. His answer came without much hesitation.
“Jimmy Butler,” Brooks said. “I feel like some things went too far. I always feel the animosity.”
Brooks admitted the rivalry stems from more than just basketball, though he downplayed the idea of any deep personal beef.

“It’s all about basketball for sure, but I just heard some things went too far, on social, stuff like that,” Brooks said. “He was posted on social, I’ll see him, you know, like in the interviews.”
Asked whether the two had crossed paths face to face since, Brooks said they had not.
The tension traces back to last year’s first-round playoff series between the Rockets and Warriors, when Butler and Brooks repeatedly clashed. During Game 4, cameras caught Butler telling Brooks he was “a bum and a b****” while the two exchanged words near midcourt. Butler doubled down afterward in his postgame press conference.
“No, we’re not having fun. I don’t like Dillon Brooks,” Butler said at the time. “We’re never having fun. I’m a fierce competitor, he’s a fierce competitor, but there’s nothing fun about that.”
Brooks, for his part, largely brushed off the exchange in the moment, appearing to laugh through some of Butler’s comments during the game itself.
The rivalry has not had a chance to reignite since, as Butler has been sidelined for much of the past year. Brooks acknowledged as much when discussing whether he was looking forward to a potential matchup.
“He was out last season. I think he’s out for a little bit right now, too. He’s probably close to getting back,” Brooks said, before noting the Warriors’ relatively quiet offseason. “The Warriors didn’t do anything.”
With Brooks now suiting up for Phoenix after a trade, and Butler working his way back for Golden State, the two could find themselves on opposite sides again before long, whether the gloves come off or not.
